If you search the web for “Avon Marketing Tips” you will get information from people that suggest posting your E-Rep link on free classified ads, and through link exchanging. This is not a bad idea, but it is not the best way to market products online. If you think about who is using all of these directories and free classified ads you may realize that it is mostly just people that are also there to post links. When was the last time you used a free classified ad or went to a directory to look for products? I never have! I use Google for all my searches, like most people do.
Above is what I will call my common sense argument, and now I will talk about how the professional use directories, link exchanges, and free classified ads. The technical term for linking to these sources is Off Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Off Page SEO is the practice of maximizing your websites exposure and page ranking by getting links to your website. There are many benefits to this, but the main purpose is to help increase your Google Page Ranking and Search Placement. Think about all the traffic you would be getting if you came up on the first page of a Google Search for the terms “Avon Products”. Your goal should be to place high on a Google Search rather than hoping for one or two hits from your links in a directory.
If you are following the strategy I layout in my eBook then you are a step ahead of the rest. This is because you are a blogger and using your blog to advance your Google Page Ranking and Placement. Reps that are putting in hours to arrange link exchanges and posting on free classifieds to their E-Rep homepage are missing the boat. You are not going to be able to increase the Page Ranking or Search Placement of your Avon E-Rep homepage. Your E-Rep homepage is just a sub-domain of Avon and you have very little control over that site. However with your blog you have an excellent chance of increasing your page ranking and getting great search placement. I should mention that you will have trouble getting Google Placement for the term “Avon”. This is because it is a highly competitive keyword. You can get a good search placement for terms like “Eye Shadow” or other detailed products descriptions. This is where keyword research comes into play. You need to find less competitive keywords so you can maximize your search engine placement by using them in your blog articles.
The important thing is that you think of you Off Page SEO as a strategy to increase your blog ranking. With that in mind you should try to find directories that have a high page ranking. The higher the directories page ranking the more valuable your link is. When you participate in link exchanges you should also take higher ranked sites more seriously. Free classified ads are a good way to recruit, because people do actually go to these kinds of sites to look for work. I would create ads that are cleverly worded and have a chance to grab attention of a potential recruit.
Off Page SEO is valuable and you should not neglect this important factor in your marketing effort. Just make sure you are directing the links to the right place to maximize your Google search ranking.
